Strengthening Higher Education Resilience Against AI-Driven Misinformation : VERITAS-AI

In October 2025, Turiba University, in cooperation with five partner institutions from Ireland, Poland, Türkiye, Cyprus and North Macedonia, launched the Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership project - VERITAS-AI.

The initiative aims to enhance AI literacy, media competence and fact-checking skills among higher education institutions (HEIs), empowering universities and students to critically evaluate information in an era of AI-generated content and digital manipulation.

Faced with increasingly sophisticated forms of disinformation facilitated by artificial intelligence, the VERITAS-AI project focuses on developing educational tools and methodologies that help higher education institutions strengthen their ability to recognize and mitigate the spread of false information. The project will develop artificial intelligence-supported fact-checking methods, practical training materials, and an opportunity to obtain a certificate confirming the skills acquired.

VERITAS-AI will focus not only on technological solutions, but also on ethical aspects, academic integrity, and responsible use of AI. By integrating AI-based fact-checking into the learning process, the project will strengthen the ability of higher education institutions to develop informed, critically thinking, and digitally skilled citizens.

Project aim

To improve AI literacy, disinformation detection and fact-checking skills in higher education, integrate AI-based verification methodologies into curricula, and provide digital learning resources.

The project will develop a structured curriculum on artificial intelligence skills, organize interactive seminars, conduct case studies on disinformation, and create digital learning modules. A certification system compliant with Europass standards will also be created and made accessible through open educational resources and digital platforms.

Expected results

  • A structured training program with five digital training modules
  • 12 practical case studies of disinformation from six European countries.
  • Interactive training materials with open access
  • Training on MI and fact checking
  • International handbook on disinformation analysis and fact-checking
  • Integration of AI skills into higher education programs
  • Promotion of long-term cooperation between academia and industry.
