We believe that the development of the University is inconceivable without innovative initiatives, the creation of new teaching approaches and methods, and without international collaboration. To prepare high-quality new professionals, it is essential for our university to provide opportunities for learning in an international environment, meeting lecturers, and professionals from around the world. Therefore, we realize international projects in collaboration with universities and partners worldwide.

Smart Tourism Academy: Green and Digital Solutions in Tourism
In October 2025, Turība University, together with partners from Slovakia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Italy, Cyprus, Hungary and Slovenia, launched the Erasmus+ cooperation partnership project “SmartTourismAcademy: Green and Digital Solutions in Tourism”. The project aims to develop digital, sustainable and innovation-driven solutions for tourism education and industry practices.
The initiative focuses on the rapid transformation of the tourism sector – the need to integrate green solutions, digital skills and regenerative approaches in both student training and the professional environment. The partners aim to create contemporary learning materials that will help universities, industry professionals and students strengthen their competencies in sustainable tourism management.
The “Smart Tourism Academy” project addresses several pressing challenges – the lack of high-quality, digitally accessible learning resources, limited knowledge on green transformation and a shortage of practical tools that support the integration of responsible tourism principles. The project will develop a unified learning platform, an online MOOC course and a collection of best-practice examples.
At the core of the project lies a balance between digital solutions and real-life experience – workplace-based research, the identification of good practices in tourism companies, and the generation and implementation of student start-up ideas.
Main objectives:
- develop the Smart Tourism Academy digital platform with learning materials and create an online course including video lectures, assignments, tests and interdisciplinary content;
- create a Green & Smart Solutions map featuring best-practice examples from partner countries;
- establish a shared Community HUB – a platform for cooperation and knowledge exchange among students from different countries;
- develop a system supporting the creation of green start-up ideas, organise competitions and an international summit;
- strengthen the competences of students, academic staff and professionals in sustainable and digital tourism management.
Project partners:
- Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, Slovakia (coordinator)
- Jagiellonian University, Poland
- Silesia University in Opava, Czech Republic
- University of Salento, Italy
- University of Nicosia, Cyprus
- Budapest Metropolitan University, Hungary
- University of Primorska, Slovenia
- Turība University, Latvia
Project duration:
📅 01.10.2025 – 30.09.2028
The project is funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union.
