Turība University will also offer IT studies at the master’s level from 2026

Taking into account the demand for qualified information technology (IT) specialists in the labor market, Turība University will offer a new master's study program in information technologies from 2026, which will be open to both those who already have an IT education and those who want to retrain and change their professional activities to the IT field.

The master's program “Information Technologies” will prepare top-level leading programming engineers and systems analysts - professionals who will be able to develop the information technology industry in the long term and will be able to promote the export of professionals, who are the future of IT.

The program will offer a variety of study courses, such as “Design Thinking for Innovations”, “IT Systems Analysis”, “Modeling and Programming”, “IT Project Management”, “Cybersecurity”, “Game Development”, “Mobile Application Development”, “Quality Management Systems in the IT Industry”, etc.

One of the advantages of this program is the opportunity to study for a master's degree for those who want to change their profession to information technology. Namely, with the acquired education and experience in the IT industry, they will be able to study in the subprogram “Leading Programming Engineer” (duration of studies 1.5 or 2 years), while those whose previous education is not related to the IT industry, but have a desire to retrain and further link their career with the IT industry - will be able to study in the subprogram “System Analyst” (duration of studies - 3 years).

By obtaining IT knowledge on an international scale and a professional master's degree in information technology, the graduate will increase their competitiveness in the labor market, receive mentor support and expand their professional contacts in various industries. Also, within the framework of the master's thesis, the student will be able to research and solve a challenge for their organization or industry.

The new master's study program “Information Technologies” is licensed until September 2029, and the first students will be able to start their studies in English from February next year, while in Latvian - from the 2026/2027 academic year.

The IT faculty has proven itself with strong scientific activity and innovations - since 2023 it has already received three patents for its inventions, and IT students are actively involved in various scientific projects, providing the opportunity to gain practical experience already during their studies.

“Continuing to develop this study direction, this year we have also introduced the Enterprise Resource Planning System SAP ERP into the IT study process, which is widely used in Latvian companies. Therefore, we are the first private university in the Baltics to introduce it into the study process,” says Dean of the IT Faculty, Associate Professor Jānis Pekša.

The IT Faculty of Turība University also offers the 1st level or college study program “Programmer” and the bachelor's study program “Computer Systems”. In response to demand, both of these study programs can also be studied in distance learning or e-study, which is very popular and appreciated. A flexible learning process is one of the main advantages, as well as the modular training principle, the ratio of lectures and practice in a ratio of approximately 1:3 and remote access to study materials make it possible to study remotely.

Turība University organizes various guest lectures and provides practical knowledge, and students also have the opportunity to go on exchange studies to other engineering universities in Europe. Study courses are carried out in an ICT laboratory, which provides everything necessary for learning and practicing the course material, as well as the opportunity to use technology and resources in their free time both on site and remotely. Students have ample opportunities to go into practice, using the internship and work opportunities provided by the faculty's cooperation partners - IT companies.

Taking into account that digital transformation and automation will continue to increase in the coming years, it is predicted that the demand for IT skills will increase even more. Changes in the workforce structure indicate that this trend could continue until 2040, as the replacement of workers with missing qualifications and the increasing integration of technology into the market will create stable demand for IT professions.
