Turība University strengthens awareness of neurodiversity in higher education
Turiba University, within the framework of the Erasmus+ project ENA – Empowering Neurodiversity in Academia, is developing the “Guidelines for Neurodivergent-Friendly Assessment Practices” to promote more inclusive and equitable assessment approaches in higher education.
The guidelines support academic staff in creating student-centred, flexible, and neurodiversity-friendly assessment processes that enable students to demonstrate their knowledge and skills without unnecessary barriers. They provide practical recommendations for all stages of assessment — from clear instructions and flexible formats to sensory-friendly environments and supportive feedback practices.
As highlighted by SUSTENTO experts — the umbrella organisation of organisations for people with disabilities in Latvia:
“Accessible assessment should not be presented only as good pedagogical practice or individual kindness from lecturers. It is also part of the right to equal access to education.”
The ENA project strengthens awareness of neurodiversity in higher education and promotes learning environments where every student can fully develop their potential.
