Turība University Liepāja branch starts the new academic year with a significant number of students

On September 6, the Liepāja branch of Turība University officially launched the new 2025/2026 academic year with a special event. The opening ceremony, held in the assembly hall of Liepāja Draudzīgā aicinājuma Secondary School, brought together over 100 students and university representatives. This year is particularly significant for the branch, as it has, for the first time, admitted more than 60 new students to both college and bachelor’s study programs.

The event featured speeches from university leadership and notable guests. Imants Bergs, Chairman of the Board of Turība University, emphasized that Turība is more than just an educational institution – it is a place that leaves a lasting impression for a lifetime, from being a student to becoming a lecturer. He highlighted that the experience gained will benefit students not only professionally but also in life overall.

Renāts Butkus, Head of the Liepāja branch, encouraged new students not to fear challenges and reminded them of the importance of humanity, noting that it is a key to success.

A particularly inspiring address was given by Kristīne Niedre-Lathere, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Science: “The greatest competition is with the only opponent who cannot be deceived – with your yesterday's self. Every step forward – a new skill, an overcome difficulty, a bold question, or a passed exam - is a victory over oneself”.

Salvis Roga, a deputy of the Liepāja City Council, also emphasized the importance of cooperation between the university and the municipality to jointly ensure the competitiveness of higher education in Liepāja.

As part of tradition, acknowledgements were expressed to the lecturers of the Liepāja branch, appreciating their competence and ability to deliver not only theoretical but also practical knowledge. This year, the team welcomed two new lecturers - Jekaterina Jeļisejenko, an experienced accountant whose journey spans from student to professional, and Egita Neiberga, with more than 15 years of experience in the financial sector.

Students also heard encouraging words from Jūlija Zūna, a lecturer in finance and accounting, who highlighted the continued relevance and importance of the accounting profession.

At the close of the event, Edgars Golts, lecturer in legal science, explained the importance of legal studies and introduced a new tradition – the “Lecturer of the Year” award. The inaugural award was presented to Dr. Iveta Golta, Associate Professor of Law, in recognition of her significant achievements.

The event's relaxed and engaging atmosphere, along with musical surprises, was made possible by the event hosts – Megija Saule and Valters Jonaitis.

The Turība University Liepāja Branch team wishes all students an outstanding and successful 2025/2026 academic year.
