Turība University Experts Share Knowledge at International MEDIATOR Project Training

Within the framework of the Erasmus+ project MEDIATOR (Modernizing Education with Dispute Intervention and Training for Occupational Readiness), an international staff training event on mediation was held, bringing together academic staff and mediation professionals from Latvia, the Netherlands, Italy, Albania, and Kosovo. Turība University was represented by lecturers and certified mediators Evija Kļave and Dana Rone, who actively contributed to the training programme.

For three intensive days, project partners from Latvia, the Netherlands, Italy, Albania, and Kosovo gathered in the Dutch city of Arnhem to enhance their professional competencies in mediation, exchange experiences, and discuss current trends in the development of mediation across Europe.

During the training, the experts from Turība University led and facilitated several thematic sessions covering both theoretical and practical aspects of mediation. Participants explored a wide range of topics, including mediation techniques, cross-border legal aspects of mediation, mediation ethics, mediation stages, and the use of caucuses in mediation. Particular attention was devoted to mediation styles, the systemic approach in mediation, the role of facts and emotions in conflict resolution, and intercultural aspects of mediation.

The programme also addressed the benefits of co-mediation and effective cooperation models for resolving complex disputes. Through discussions, case studies, and practical exercises, participants gained valuable insights into different national approaches and successful mediation practices implemented across Europe.

These training activities form part of– Staff Training, which aims to strengthen the competencies of academic staff in the field of mediation, support the development of new mediation-related study modules, and contribute to the establishment of mediation centres within partner institutions. The project promotes the transfer of European best practices and fosters sustainable cooperation between universities, mediation professionals, and sectoral organisations.

The overall objective of the MEDIATOR project is to modernise legal education in Albania and Kosovo by integrating mediation and alternative dispute resolution methods into higher education curricula, while supporting the development of qualified mediators and strengthening mediation culture in line with European standards and best practices.

Participation in these international training activities highlights the expertise of Turība University representatives and their significant contribution to the advancement of mediation education and professional practice at the European level, further strengthening the university’s role in international academic and professional cooperation.

The project is implemented with the financial support of the European Union’s Erasmus+ Programme.
