Turība “Honorary Award” laureate in the nomination “Honorary Doctor” Dr. Ivars Godmanis

Doctor of Science Ivars Godmanis is a personality whose name is associated with excellent public administration experience, economic vision and the ability to inspire future generations of professionals. His contribution to the political and economic development of Latvia is invaluable - both as the first head of government after the restoration of independence, and later, when he led the government during the financial crisis of the 2000s.

Professor Rosita Zvirgzdiņa, Head of the Department of Commerce at Turība University, emphasizes that in the academic environment Ivars Godmanis has gained respect as a knowledgeable, erudite and demanding lecturer, who provides students not only theoretical knowledge, but also a unique insight into real business processes. His lectures are based on experience, examples and critical thinking - he always emphasizes the importance of an analytical approach, the logic of decision-making and the historical context.

Colleagues describe him as an intellectually strong, at the same time - responsive and correct person, who knows how to maintain a professional and respectful environment. For students, he is not only a lecturer, but also an authority and a discussion partner who encourages them to think more broadly and deeply.

Awarding Ivars Godmanis the title of Honorary Doctor is a logical and well-deserved step, which confirms his contribution to both the development of the country and higher education in Latvia.

During his life, Ivars Godmanis has played various roles - as a politician, scientist, musician, athlete. And, as he himself admits, all of these roles have had their moments of joy and more difficult periods. Each of these activities is specific in its own way and with different emphases, so it is very difficult to compare them. For example, working in politics, you cannot get satisfaction from what you have accomplished. “A political career cannot be ended or stopped; once you have been closely associated with it, it is like a seal. Society takes what you have done for granted, but what you have not done will be remembered for the rest of your life,” says the Honorary Doctor.

He defines his best life lesson as follows: “To give my all in everything I do and to invest my best. This is important at any stage of life and in any field”.

In turn, he advises young students who want to build a career in politics, economics or business not to waste their time at any stage of life, choosing any profession.
