Teaching staff of Turība’s Nutrition program participate in international training in Portugal
The director of the Bachelor’s study programme “Nutrition” at Turība University, Guna Bīlande, and programme lecturer Linda Gerda-Skudra have participated in international professional training in Portugal, strengthening their competencies in nutrition therapy and clinical nutrition science, with the aim of integrating this knowledge into the education of future nutrition specialists.
The training was carried out in cooperation with EASO – the European Association for the Study of Obesity, which is Europe’s leading organization bringing together healthcare professionals, researchers, and policymakers. Its goal is to unite stakeholders in addressing health problems caused by obesity. EASO consists of 39 national associations and more than 200 multidisciplinary treatment centers across Europe.
EASO’s mission is to improve public health indicators by advancing a science-based approach to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and long-term management of obesity. The organization promotes collaboration among scientists, clinical specialists, and policymakers to strengthen access to effective, evidence-based treatment.
Participation in international training enables Turība’s lecturers to deepen scientifically based knowledge on current issues in nutrition therapy, promote international cooperation and exchange of experience, and provide students with the latest information on obesity research and clinical practice in Europe.
The Bachelor’s study programme “Nutrition” (at the moment available only in Latvian) at Turība University is the newest nutrition programme in the Baltic States, developed by leading industry specialists in cooperation with doctors and other healthcare professionals, and is offered within Turība’s Field of Health Care.
