Student Council - an adventure that makes study time brighter
Study years can pass in the rhythm of lectures and exams, or can become a time remembered long after graduation. Those who prefer option two and choose to experience studies - the road often leads to the Student Council. This is where students gain not only personal growth, but also professional experiences that open new doors, not just in the study process but also in their future careers.
The Student Council is not a bureaucratic concept from the statute of the institution of higher education - it is a team of students who take care that the university is not just lectures and exams, but also bright events, close friendships, and memorable memories. It also represents the voice of students at the university and makes sure anyone who comes through the door quickly feels at home.
HOW IS IT ORGANIZED?
The Student Council is based on members - students who engage in projects and events and represent the interests of students in the decision-making bodies of the institution of higher education. They are the ones who make the work of the Student Council day after day, and it is among them that the next leaders emerge.
The highest decision-making body of the Student Council is the Council, which decides on the operation of the organisation, changes in the by-law and financial matters, and each February elects the Board of the Student Council. The Board, in turn, is the executive branch - the President and Vice President coordinating the entire Board's work, and the six department heads who each push their department forward.
International students can participate in the International Cooperation Department, which organises events directly for international students, helps foreign students feel at home, builds a community at our university, and makes sure there's an intercultural understanding in our university.
WHY IS IT WORTH JOINING AND ENGAGING IN SELF-GOVERNING ACTIVITY?
"The Student Council can turn ideas into life-changing possibilities. The key is willpower and willingness to do. It is a place where a student can express himself creatively – to put his or her hand in organising events, generating new ideas, teamwork and leadership. I've been engaging in the Student Council since my first year of studies, and it's really made my years of study brighter. I have acquired memorable memories, new friends, as well as the main one - contacts and experiences. I knew that one day I would want to be a Head of some department and give my contribution to the organization, so I went for it purposefully because I knew that the Student Council was a place of opportunity and everyone could achieve the same dreams. Our Student Council is open to everyone,” says Rēzija Kudore, Head of the Marketing department of the Turiba University Student Council.
MEMORABLE EVENTS
Throughout the year, the Student Council continually organises various events, both educational and fun, that provide students a rest amid the rapid pace of studies.
Our biggest events include:
- “International Fukši” - freshman initiations that include team-building activities and fun tasks;
- "Christmas ball" - the biggest event of the year in December, which marks the end of the study year;
- “Swim into session” - the most anticipated event at Līvu Aqua Park before the session begins.
