RIX Riga Airport and Turība University to collaborate on enhancing professional higher education

On 4 December, Turība University and RIX Riga Airport ceremonially signed a cooperation agreement aimed at enhancing professional higher education, improving the business environment, and educating professionals in this field, with the goal of providing students with broader opportunities in studies, scientific research, and creative work.

Zane Driņķe, Rector of Turība University, emphasizes: “We believe that close collaboration with the industry is the foundation of high-quality and competitive higher education. Partnering with Riga Airport – the largest airport in the Baltics, will allow our students to learn from industry professionals, gain practical skills, and participate in real processes. This is a significant contribution to students’ career development and strengthening Latvia’s business environment”.

Laila Odiņa, Chairperson of Riga Airport, adds: “The collaboration between Riga Airport and Turība University creates an environment where knowledge and innovation form the basis for growth. We are ready to share our experience with future specialists and believe that cooperation between industry practice and the academic environment is a strong solution for sustainable development and Latvia’s overall competitiveness”.

After the ceremonial signing, the leadersof both parties discussed detailed plans for future cooperation. Meanwhile, students from Turība’s Business Logistics Management and Organizational Security programs participated in an educational tour of the airport, gaining practical knowledge and real experience in logistics, organizational security, and other processes at Riga Airport.

The cooperation agreement was signed by the Chairman of the Board of Turība University, Laila Odiņa, Chairperson of Riga Airport, and Board Member Artūrs Saveļjevs.

Under the agreement, university students will be offered internships at companies, while the partner organization will have the opportunity to provide expert consultations in various fields, lead practical sessions, seminars, workshops, and guest lectures, advise on the development of study programs, and participate in the mentor program.

The development of study programs and the study process is closely linked to the industry. To ensure that students gain the latest industry knowledge and remain closely connected to the sector during their studies, Turība University emphasizes practical knowledge and lecturers who are industry professionals.

The university takes pride in its partners – companies, organizations, and institutions that share their expertise through guest lectures and provide students with opportunities for practical experience. Overall, Turība University has a wide network of partners, which continues to grow each year. Additionally, the university runs a Mentor Association, bringing together experienced entrepreneurs and experts from various fields who are ready to share their experience and support students who have already taken or are planning to take their first steps in business.
