On Support Opportunities for Foreign Students Studying in Latvia
On October 27, 2025, an informative seminar “Basics of Career Development for Foreign Students” took place at the Turība Business Incubator. The aim of the event was to provide practical and informative support to international students at the beginning of their career development journey in Latvia.
The event was organized by the Turība University Career Centre in cooperation with the university’s International Office and brought together foreign students from various countries.
The seminar began with a presentation by Laura Veremeja, Coordinator of Service Content Methodology and Events at the One-Stop Agency. She introduced students to the available psychological, legal, and social integration support services, as well as free consultations in Latvian, English, and Russian, which can be accessed both in person and remotely.
Opportunities to receive support in job searching, preparing CVs and motivation letters, recognizing qualifications, and communicating with potential employers were also highlighted. The discussion included information about foreign students’ rights to work during their studies, as well as opportunities to become self-employed or start their own businesses in Latvia.
The LiveLatvia.lv portal was emphasized as an important resource, bringing together up-to-date information for newcomers to Latvia. More information about available support can be obtained by writing to hello@sif.gov.lv or calling +371 26959706.
In the second part of the seminar, Yashwant Ashok, a Turība graduate from India who has successfully launched his professional career in Latvia, shared his personal story. His story served as an inspiring example of how perseverance and active engagement can lead to successful integration and development outside one’s home country.
He encouraged students to take advantage of the available support mechanisms and consultations, to be active both in and outside their studies, and to be proactive and courageous in seeking out the opportunities that life in Latvia offers.
Throughout the event, students asked many questions and actively participated in discussions, demonstrating great interest in the opportunities available to foreign students in Latvia. Such initiatives not only strengthen awareness of their rights but also foster a sense of security and belonging in a new environment.
