High school students explore daily life at Turība University during Shadow Day
On April 1, Shadow Day took place at Turība University, during which students from grades 10 - 12 had the opportunity to explore the university environment, learn about the daily work of various university staff members, and ask questions about the study process. During the event, young people “shadowed” university employees and gained insight into possible future career paths.
This year, students had the opportunity to follow the daily work of several university representatives. Participants learned about the role of the Head of International Office, who is responsible for building international contacts and strengthening cooperation in higher education. Students also learned more about international study opportunities and programs, including Erasmus+, as well as how cooperation between different countries and educational institutions is organized.
Participants were also able to observe the daily work of the Head of the Business Incubator and learn how the university’s business incubator supports students and young entrepreneurs in developing their business ideas. They had the chance to meet students who are already working on implementing their ideas and to learn more about mentor support, consultations, and cooperation opportunities within the business environment.
Meanwhile, students who chose to shadow a lecturer spent the day with teaching staff from the Health Care field. They learned more about the study process and expanded their knowledge of the healthcare and beauty industries, as well as became familiar with the study environment in which students of therapeutic massage and aesthetic cosmetology programs are trained.
Throughout the day, students actively asked questions, explored the university environment, and gained valuable insight into the study process and various professional fields. Participants admitted that this kind of experience helps them better understand their future study and career opportunities.
Shadow Day is a career education program by Junior Achievement, aimed at introducing students to the requirements of different professions and industries, helping young people make informed decisions about their future careers and prepare for the labor market. The program promotes cooperation between educational institutions, society, and the workplace, providing students with the opportunity to gain practical insight into various professions while still in school.
