Communication students are offered new specializations - business diplomacy and communication security

In today's dynamic and challenging information age, Turība University is paying attention to improving the communication study offer, introducing new and relevant specializations in both bachelor's and master's study programs - “Business Diplomacy” and “Communication and Public Security”.

They prepare future leaders and experts who are familiar with the international environment, are able to navigate global processes and effectively manage communication in difficult conditions.

Specialization in the bachelor's program - “Business Diplomacy”

The study program “International Communication Management” has been supplemented with the specialization “Business Diplomacy”, which is based on trends in international business and cultural interaction.

“The modern business environment is not only a space for economic relations, but also a platform for diplomacy, where negotiations, coordination and building relationships between representatives of different cultures become an everyday part of life. In international business, elements of diplomacy are particularly important, because cooperation with other countries requires not only professional knowledge, but also the ability to understand different cultures and adapt to them,” explains Jana Bunkus, Head of the Department of Communications Sciences.

Today, the business environment is not only a space for economic transactions – it has become a platform for diplomacy, where negotiation skills, intercultural understanding and the ability to build long-term trust are essential. Elements of diplomacy are particularly important, because cooperation with other countries requires not only professional knowledge, but also the ability to understand different cultures and adapt to them.

In export processes, these aspects are particularly important, because even a slight disregard for cultural peculiarities can become an obstacle to successful cooperation or lead to lost deals. This is not just a theoretical assumption – this is proven in practice by many companies that operate globally and successfully combine business strategy with cultural understanding. The success of Latvian companies in international markets also largely depends on the skills of their managers, sales managers and customer relationship managers to build trust, adapt communication and act with cultural sensitivity, which in the long term promotes successful exports and cooperation.

The specialization allows you to study courses such as “Geopolitics and Global Economy”, “Intercultural Business Relations”, “Negotiation Management in the International Environment”; “International Protocol and Etiquette”.

Master's Specialization – “Communication and Public Security”

The Master's study program “Strategic Communication Management” has been supplemented with a new, interdisciplinary specialization “Communication and Public Security”, which is focused on current challenges in the information space. Nowadays, when society is faced with disinformation and cyber threats, it is essential to prepare professionals who are able to identify, analyze and prevent these risks.

This specialization was developed in cooperation with the Master's study program “Security Management of Organizations”.

“The digital age has also brought its own challenges, breaking down the boundaries of intercultural communication, these boundaries have also been broken down for criminals, propaganda of hostile countries and disinformation distributors. The new master's study specialization will prepare communication specialists who are ready for the challenges of the digital age and will be in positions of protection of our information space, serving to ensure individual privacy, national security and the reputation of organizations,” emphasizes Kārlis Apalups, Head of the Turība Organizational Security Department.

The specialization includes such study courses as “Technologies in Recognizing Disinformation”, “International Security and Geopolitics”, “Social Psychology, Communication and Security”, “Disinformation and Influence Activities”.

“This specialization forms professionals who are familiar with the principles of information security, crisis communication and public perception management. Students acquire the skills to develop solutions in crisis situations, analyze the information environment and develop effective communication strategies,” emphasizes Jana Bunkus, Head of the Communication Department.

The specialization is especially suitable for those who want to develop a career in public administration, security institutions, media or the private sector – as communication experts, analysts or security specialists.

Two more specializations are also available to communication students: “Digital Communication” and “Digital and Multimedia Communication”.

In the “Digital Communication” specialization, six study courses are implemented in addition to the basic bachelor’s program: “Digital Communication”, “Influencer Marketing”, “Digital Communication Content Creation”, “Digital Communication Campaigns – About Campaigns and How to Organize Them More Successfully”; “Digital Communication Psychology”, “Multimedia”.

In turn, within the framework of the master's program, communication students who choose the specialization "Digital and Multimedia Communication" will additionally study such study courses as "Strategic Communication Management in Multimedia Environment", "Digital Communication and Social Media Marketing", "Graphic Design and Visualization", "Psychology of Communication" and others. In the creative space of the communication direction "DigiCom" you can learn practical multimedia skills.

Communication skills are essential in the modern work environment and are highly valued in the labor market. They can not only promote career growth, but also ensure the ability to adapt to a changing information environment. Turība University offers the opportunity to study communication at all levels - bachelor's, master's and doctoral studies, both in Latvian and English:
