Information Technology

The professional master’s study program “Information Technology” provides comprehensive knowledge of the global IT world and its development, fostering the student’s professional growth. It offers in-depth insight into complex programming languages, innovations, software development, and the integration and automation of IT operations (DevOps).

This master’s study program is open to both those who already have education in the IT field and those who wish to change their professional area to information technology.

Students with prior education and experience in the IT field can study in the sub-program "Lead Programming Engineer" (duration 1.5 or 2 years), while those whose previous education is not related to IT but who want to retrain and build their career in the IT sector can study in the sub-program "Systems Analyst" (duration – 3 years).

The program offers a diverse range of study courses, such as “Design Thinking for Innovation,” “IT Systems Analysis,” “Modeling and Programming,” “IT Project Management,” “Cybersecurity,” “Game Development,” “Mobile Application Development,” and “Quality Management Systems in the IT Sector”.

The program prepares top-level lead programming engineers and systems analysts—professionals capable of advancing IT in the long term and promoting the export of IT specialists, which is the future of the IT field.

Program content

The content of the study program may be updated and altered during the studies, based on the requirements of the labor market and the regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers.

Admission requirements

  • 1.5 years in the Latvian language – in the sub-program “Lead Programming Engineer” (47484): First-cycle professional higher education (professional bachelor's degree) or equivalent professional higher education in Information Technology or a related scientific field, completed in full-time studies by finishing at least a four-year (240 ECTS) study program with the qualification of Programming Engineer.
  • 1.5 years in English – in the sub-program “Lead Programming Engineer” (47484): First-cycle professional higher education (professional bachelor's degree) or equivalent professional higher education in Information Technology or a related scientific field, completed in full-time studies by finishing at least a four-year (240 ECTS credits) study program with the qualification of Programming Engineer. English language proficiency at least at B2 level.
  • 2 years in Latvian – in the sub-program “Lead Programming Engineer” (47484): First-cycle academic higher education (academic bachelor's degree) in Information Technology or a related scientific field, completed in full-time studies by finishing at least a three-year (180 ECTS credits) study program.
  • 2 years in English – in the sub-program “Lead Programming Engineer” (47484): First-cycle academic higher education (academic bachelor's degree) in Information Technology or a related scientific field, completed in full-time studies by finishing at least a three-year (180 ECTS credits) study program. English language proficiency at least at B2 level.
  • 3 years in Latvian – in the sub-program “Systems Analyst” (47483): First-cycle academic or professional higher education (academic or professional bachelor's degree) in natural sciences or engineering, or an equivalent qualification; or first-cycle higher education in another scientific field or an equivalent qualification and at least two years of work experience in the fields of computer science and informatics, or electrical engineering, electronics, or information and communication technologies. Applicants without an entrance examination may be admitted only if they have prior education in the study field (IT or electrical engineering, electronics, information and communication technologies). Applicants with prior education in another field must pass an entrance examination in the form of an interview and prove at least two years of work experience in the relevant study field.
  • 3 years in English – “Systems Analyst” (47483): First-cycle academic or professional higher education (academic or professional bachelor's degree) in natural sciences or engineering, or an equivalent qualification; or first-cycle higher education in another scientific field or an equivalent qualification and at least two years of work experience in the fields of computer science and informatics, or electrical engineering, electronics, or information and communication technologies. Applicants without an entrance examination may be admitted only if they have prior education in the study field (IT or electrical engineering, electronics, information and communication technologies). Applicants with prior education in another study field must pass an entrance examination in the form of an interview and demonstrate at least two years of work experience in the relevant study field.
