Turiba Receives Certificates of UN World Tourism Organization for the Obtained Accreditation (7)
Professional bachelor study programme „Tourism and Hospitality Management” and professional master study programme „Strategic Management in Tourism” implemented by Turiba University have received the internationally recognized TedQual certificate of UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO - UN World Tourism Organization) for the obtained international accreditation for the maximum period – four years.
„We are satisfied that our efforts to provide a modern education, appropriate for a labour market and practical training for future specialists of tourism and hospitality field are highly assessed by such prestigious international organization as the World Tourism Organization. The master study programme “Hotel and Restaurant Service, Tourism and Leisure Organization” by this organization has been accredited for the first time, once again showing that the quality of our study programmes meet all the highest world standards and our graduates with their knowledge and professionalism are able to make a valuable contribution not only to the Latvian tourism industry, but they can also successfully compete in the international labour market,” comments the dean of the Faculty of International Tourism Agita Doniņa.
As reported previously, in order to obtain this certificate in November 2013 the independent auditor, professor and certified quality assessor George Ubbelohde visited Turiba University and assessed the quality of its implemented study programme. As the professor noted at the final day of the audit, Turiba clearly represents reputation and quality. According to his view, University can be proud of qualitatively and systematically developed documentation, well-organized and optimized infrastructure, great lecturers and students, exemplary cooperation with fields and other relevant aspects for the study process.
Graduates of the University with their knowledge and professionalism make a valuable contribution not only to the Latvian tourism industry, but also they can successfully compete in the international labour market. Already now almost 200 students of the faculty work in the practice in any of the foreign business partner companies, also after studies they are very often invited to work in the previous practice companies in Greece, Ireland, Switzerland, USA, a.o.
Professional bachelor study programme „Tourism and Hospitality Management” and professional master study programme „Strategic Management in Tourism” implemented by the Faculty of International Tourism are the only programmes in the Central Europe which have obtained the UN WTO TedQual certificate. This document is awarded only to those world universities whose implemented higher education in the tourism field meets the developed quality standards. Turiba students and academic staff, as well as participants of UN WTO TedQual are regularly enrolled in world tourism education and research projects, for example, by jointly developing the code of ethics of partner universities of the organization, by organizing student questionnaires of UN WTO TedQual.
