The Work of the Academic Staff on the EU Leonardo da Vinci project „Regional and Rural Tourism Products (Turkish Delights)” is Coming to a Conclusion (1)
This December the academic staff of the Faculty of International Tourism of Turiba University concludes the work on EU Leonardo da Vinci project „Regional and Rural Tourism Products (Turkish Delights)” in the framework of which the training program for students, future entrepreneurs and employees of regional tourism was developed.
In the cooperation of involved partners in the project from Turkey, Spain, Netherlands and Latvia in total seven training modules are developed:
- Rural tourism activities (in English, Italian, Turkish)
- Travelling with the balloon (in English, Italian, Turkish)
- Tour management (in English, Dutch)
- Hospitality (in English, Italian)
- Thermal tourism (in English, Spanish, Turkish)
- Gastronomic heritage – Mediterranean cuisine from Spain to Turkey (in English, Spanish, Turkish)
- Snacks in the rural tourism offer (in Latvian, English)
In Latvia this project has lead to the training module „Snacks in the Rural Tourism Offer” which is available both in printed version and electronic version and is intended for the use by students and lecturers.
The training module consists of six sections. In the beginning sections of the module catering in rural tourism enterprises and the latest trends in gastronomy, the gastronomic heritage has been analysed and the importance of the traditional dishes and drinks in tourism are emphasized. The most practical is the third section which is devoted to the traditional Latvian cuisine and various snacks of it. The section is supplemented by the traditional recipes.
The fourth section is designed as very practical study material in which the necessary information for preparing and serving the meal for guests starting from the room decor, hygiene requirements, product storage, meal preparation and concluding with the table setting and customer service is provided.
The fifth section of the material is devoted to the marketing offered in the rural tourism enterprises. The simple recital of it will allow any rural entrepreneur to evaluate the type of guests and their needs, identify near and accessible offer popularization channels, to encourage searching for new creative approaches in the popularization of their services even without specific background knowledge.
At the end of the module three examples of good practice are included – the offer of traditional vegetable tarts „Sklandrauši” in Alsunga, the offer of the local wine in Lauciena and the Spanish example: the use of the traditional snack – tapa – in the rural tourism enterprises.
At the beginning of each section in the short introduction the attention is paid to benefits of the student of the training module by thoroughly reading the text of the section and doing the practical exercises at the end of the section.
