Thinking, creatively active representatives of different professions who care about fate of Latvia are invited to the conference!

The dean of the Faculty of Law of assoc. prof. Ingrīda Veikša comments: ”On May 1 2004 Latvia together with other nine countries joined the European Union (EU), thus implementing one of the main goals of the foreign policy. Accession to EU provided an opportunity for sustainable development of Latvia while at the same time it was a hard examination to compete in a free market environment. In the National Development Plan of Latvia 2014 – 2010 macro-economic barriers and forecasts are analysed. It is indicated that during 10 years since Latvia joined the Europe Union grandiose rates in national economy have been observed, unfortunately this growth was not sustainable and ended with a sharp drop. Latvia in the European Union is evaluated as „a modest innovator”, there are low rates in the field of innovations, although growth rates exceed the average rate in the European Union.”

As pointed by I. Veikša, the conference will answer the question: what have we done during these 10 years to make a country one step closer to the ideal that we have imagined? „There is a great number of small works what we can do on our own for common increase in prosperity of country and society. The main task is to take the first step and understand that the responsibility for our country starts with the responsibility for our own actions and life, as well as with the respect to other people and divergence itself!”

A broad range of issues was discussed in the conference. Scholars and students from different Latvian universities will discuss about the following issues:

  • Latvia – a country of active and responsible citizens in the EU
  • Latvia – attractive country for tourists and investors
  • Provision of justice and effective enforcement of law
  • Improving of the business environment and  economic competitiveness of entrepreneurs within EU
  • Development of the research and innovation
  • Increase in intellectual property rights in the EU economics
  • Improvement of security and law enforcement agency work competences
  • The influence of professional higher education on the overall sustainable growth of the country
  • Successful communication between the state and people – the basis of people’s trust to their country
  • Development of communication in the European Union
