NGO “Shelter “Safe House”” invites youngsters to events in April and May (2)

Young people from NGO “Shelter “Safe House”” (Patvērums “Drošā māja”) are working on a series of events for other young people (especially third country nationals) to promote their inclusion into the Latvian community and let locals learn about the cultures they bring with them.

Altogether there will be four events the goal of which are to provide an interesting environment for building friendships, sharing cultures and learning about each other.

Events

April 16 – Candlelight supper

April 30 – Game night

May 14 – Music for all

May 31 – City Rally

Groups of 2-4 people prepare a simple sampling of their favourite comfort food* . It does not necessarily need to be specific to a certain nation or country, but the groups will have to present the food they bring.

The activity is designed for up to 20 people.

Venue – NGO “Shelter “Safe House”” Lāčplēša iela 75-1, Rīga

Time – 17.30-20.00

An evening of simple board, computer and sports games brought together by the young people in a competition.

Sanākam, sadziedam

All come, all sing – an open evening with opportunity to play your own instruments and jam with others + sing songs from your country and your heart.

The activity is designed for up to 40 people

Venue – possibly “Kaņieris”

Time – 18.00 +

After receiving the task (directions, hints and conditions) participants in smaller groups head into the city to find potentially unseen urban treasures. The event ends with a common picnic and viewing of pictures and deciding on the most creative group

Venue – Start at NGO “Shelter “Safe House”” Lāčplēša iela 75-1, Rīga rally in Riga city

Time – 12.00-16.00

The activities are carried out by volunteers from “Shelter “Safe House”” within the project "Diverse Solutions for Public Education and Integration 3" which is co-financed by the European Fund for the Integration of Third-Country Nationals (75%) and state budget (25%).

* Comfort food is traditional food which often provides a nostalgic or sentimental feeling to the consumer, and is often characterized by a high carbohydrate level and simple preparation. The nostalgic element most comfort food has may be specific to either the individual or a specific culture.
