New Rector Approved for Turiba University (1754)
Yesterday, on July 2nd, the government approved the draft order for the approval of Dr. iur. Jānis Načisčionis to the post of the Turiba University Rector. One of the main priorities for the new Rector would be to establish an even closer cooperation with the private and the public sectors, to further elaborate of the study process and to move steadily towards the acquisition of a private university status.
J. Načisčionis points out that in order to accomplish a successful entry of high-grade specialists into the labour market it is essential to provide such education combining theory with the practical studies. ‘In a place, where industry professionals, entrepreneurs, researchers and students meet, it is possible to create a study environment where research relevant to the development of different areas of activity and science is made. The students in their learning of new knowledge are assisted by excellent tutors who motivate the growth of specialists that are in demand by the labour market,’ J. Načisčionis explains. One of the first items on the To-Do list of the new Rector when assessing the achievements made by the University during its 20 years of existence, will be to further encourage the involvement of industry specialists in the study process, to listen to the advice shared by the tutors, the students and the employers as to how the study environment should be improved in order for the University to become the first private university in Latvia which is a model for those locally and all over the world.
Jānis Načisčionis is a long-standing employee of the University by commencing his activities at the University in 2005. Until now he has held such University positions as the Chairman of the Turiba University Senate, Dean of the Faculty of Law and Head of the Chair of Public Rights.
The term of the former Turiba University Rector Antons Kiščenko expired, and in this regard Doctor of Law J. Načisčionis was elected to the post of the University Rector by the Constitutional Meeting of Turiba University on February 20th, 2013. The Turiba University members (founders) approved the resolution of the Turiba University Constitutional Meeting on the election of a rector and decided to propose the nominee J. Načisčionis for approval by the Cabinet of Ministers in its meeting on May 16th, 2013.
The newly elected Rector has an extensive work experience in both scientific and academic environments; he has acquired the Degree of a Doctor of Law at the University of Latvia, has been a tutor at the Riga Medical Institute and the University of Latvia, professor at the Latvian Police Academy and Turiba University. J. Načisčionis is the author of countless scientific articles and monographs and over years has supplemented his knowledge in several educational establishments abroad.
